Smart Invoice Capture vs Smart Fields

Hello,

With the emergence of Smart Fields, the question has come up here as to what is the recommended solution for Invoice processing. Is the Smart Invoice Capture still the preferred engine for processing invoices, or can Smart Fields perform this task reliably enough now to potentially replace it? Since Smart Invoice Capture was touted as a "machine-learning" product, that leads me to believe that it's potentially storing information about the invoices that helps train the engine for future captures and would give this engine the advantage in terms of processing. I'd be interested to hear from Laserfiche on their recommendation for the most accurate and reliable solution.

Hi Brian,

My personally recommendation is to focus on Smart Fields. One of the things that makes Smart Fields so exciting for us at Laserfiche is that it doesn't need to be specialized in the way that ML-based tools needed to even just a couple years ago. So it's best to think as Smart Invoice Capture as an earlier 'specific' generation approach that only worked for Invoices, and Smart Fields is the newer generation approach that now allows use for all types (including invoices). In fact, Smart Fields' nature adds functionality for Invoice extraction that was not available in Smart Invoice Capture, namely line-item capture, and is not restricted to only being available through Capture Profiles as Smart Invoice Capture was (both examples of the more general vs specific nature of the approaches).
