Question

Snapshot 12 unable to Modify and remove shared printer

asked on June 10

Previously Snapshot was part of the Windows Client Suite and I could click modify from Windows Installed apps and choose if I wanted either Current User and/or Shared Printer.

The Modify option is greyed out now in Installed apps for the new Snapshot 12 isolated application. Also when installing I never got a choice to install only Current User.

I am trying to only install Current User configuration.

Snapshot 12 does not have the option now. We can try to make those two printers isolated so that you can install them independently if there is a reason.

The requirement to pick one or the other was due to print driver and OS limitations in previous versions. Snapshot 12 installs both printers by default.

Is there any way to remove the shared printer?

Ok, I will let them know. They did not want to install the shared printer. There was no plan to share it to other workstations.

Just to clarify, installing shared printer will not share it to other workstations unless people have configured it.

Installing the Shared Printer has caused issues for clients who have Uniflow SmartClient in their environment.  When Uniflow SmartClient is installed with SnapShot 12 it seems to force the LF Snapshot print processor to (Shared) and the SnapShot windows ceases to launch during the print process.  I tried to exclude the SnapShot printer from Uniflow Accounting but that doesn't help.  I rolled back to SnapShot 11 for now to rid our environment of LFSnapshot (Shared), but I'm not sure what the future will hold if I can never move forward to Snapshot 12.

I would be curious what effect removing the Laserfiche Snapshot (Shared) printer and removing the associated LFSnapshot Windows service would have.

If you are deploying via automation that allows for PowerShell scripting post MSI execution perhaps the attached script would work?   The attachment was renamed from .ps1 to .txt to allow upload to Answers.  This script removes the printer specifically named "Laserfiche Snapshot (Shared)" while leaving the Laserfiche Snapshot printer alone, and removes the windows service named "LFSnapshot" which monitors for  network print jobs.  Note: removing the windows service requires administrator privileges to execute sc.exe successfully.

It might also be worth noting that the LF12 documentation indicates that custom installation is still possible which in my testing appears to be incorrect.
