Question

Question

Snapshot window does not open when printing.

asked on May 16 Show version history

We have this issue where Snapshot (non shared) will not bring up the print window unless we reinstall the program.

We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire LF12 client suite, this resolves it for about a day.
we've tried Rebooting when the issue comes up and it does not solve it.

Happens to on site and remote users.

#edit
Disabling the LF snapshot service resolved out issues.

Hi @████████,

Please check if Windows Services -> Laserfiche Snapshot Service is running on the workstation where you want to run the Snapshot (non shared)? If so, stop it and retry.

Hi @████████

I've had to deal with something similar related to Snapshot before. I'm going to share my troubleshooting list with you. That helped me resolve it. I hope you find a solution in one of these points.

1. Restart the Windows Print Spooler: services.msc ➜ Print Spooler ➜ Restart or net stop spooler && net start spooler (Occasionally, applications may be using this service and blocking you from using it.)

2. Purge stuck Snapshot jobs: ➜ Laserfiche Snapshot Shared Printer Configuration: General Tab ➜ Delete Temporary Job Files (Delete Files Button) – or manually clear %WINDIR%\Temp and %WINDIR%\System32\spool\printers (while the spooler services are stopped).

3. Check if you had any recent Windows updates; patches sometimes affect this service. and you'll only have to reinstall Snapshot (not the entire LF).

4. Check which printer is your default printer, and make sure it's always on. This way, you'll prevent Windows from rerouting the job through an XPS or PDF "helper" driver that Snapshot doesn't recognize.

Hey Luis,

I've ran through each one of those actionable items,

1- restarting print spooler did not work, and had been tried in the past
2a- there were no hung jobs, and deleting from within the shared config did not make it start working
2b- deleted win\temp data and sys32\spool\printers - no dice after turning the print spooler back on
3- in the IT dept, we are on the latest version of Windows 11,  as for everyone else, they're staggered by a week.  we need to maintain the latest version for compliance
4-Snapshot is set to my default printer,

side note, Snapshot Shared always works, it's just the user version that fails after reboot/ the next workday.

I believe this is more an issue with snapshot itself rather than something we can control

I agree. None of the fixes posted here are working for us either. On top of this, not only does it not prompt but it also reports back a status of "printed" in the print queue without ever actually printing anything. So the printer just doesn't work period.

However on my personal workstations I have no problems. I keep my personal workstations extra clean though by using as many web based tools as possible.

Hey Liping,

Laserfiche Snapshot Service is running

Stopping the service and printing to Snapshot did bring up the box.  Does the snapshot service only apply for the Snapshot (Shared) printer?

The Laserfiche Snapshot Service is used to support shared printer, but we expect both Snapshot local printer and shared printer to work when the service is running, I reported a bug  (#592967) to improve this behavior, thank you for reporting this issue.

Are you saying that the service does not support the local printer? What are the details of this bug?

@████████Hi Chad, the Laserfiche Snapshot Service is used to monitor network print jobs and is only used to support shared printer. When both local printer and shared printer are installed on a server, we expect them to work side-by-side. Note that the shared printer only work if the Laserfiche Snapshot Service is running and the printer is configured to be available on the network.

But in fact, when the Laserfiche Snapshot Service is running, there is no response when sending a print job to the local printer, which is not the expected behavior.

I got it to work on mine by doing the following steps.

1) Uninstall Snapshot from the PC.

2) Reboot the PC

3) Re-install snapshot.

I think rebooting it in-between the uninstall/re-install steps is the key.
