Question

Hardware Finger Print

asked on September 10, 2024

We are running Rio and want to increase our storage drive size. Would Hardware finger print activation lock be triggered? From what I have been able to see online, ram upgrade and network card upgrades have triggered the lock.

Possible but unlikely. Since you're on Rio, we strongly recommend you make the free, self-service switch to a domain-locked license. With those, Laserfiche checks the Active Directory domain a server is joined to against an allowed list instead of a hardware fingerprint.

See Domain-locked Licenses Available on the Support Site - Laserfiche Answers and the Domain-based Licensing documentation for details.

For me it only seems to happen if I remove or replace anything that has a large visible circuit board attached to it or would have a visible circuit board attached it if was not virtual (IE: network cards, motherboards, graphics cards). I have been able to increase disk size, add disks, memory, and CPU cores without any issue dozens of times. Just make sure you use showhwpf in the /Server directory to capture your hardware profile first, since you don't want to lose it if anything happens.
