Question

Is it possible to set the default volume for all new entries?

asked on May 1, 2024

Q1: Is it possible to set the default volume for all new entries?

My repository uses two volumes (Vol1 & Vol2).

-Vol1 disk size cannot be increased. Original Legacy set up limitations.

-Vol2 disk size can be increased. This volume was added at a later time.

The default volume at the root repository node is set to Vol1.

My approach: Assuming that all child folders' default volumes were set to "Inherit from parent", I updated the root repo node's default volume to Vol2.

This did not work as intended as my assumption was wrong. A vast majority of child folders are hard set to Vol1 as their default volume.

Unless there is another way, now it seems that I need to get each folder and update its default to its parent's default.

This is obviously too much for a manual task so I am looking into implementing this in a workflow.

Workflow doesn't seem to have the activity equivalent of the repository client's feature where you would:

  • select the folder
  • Click Tasks in top menu
  • Set Default Volume

Since changing the default volume of a folder seems to also migrate the folder's current volume, I am experimenting with the migrate entry activity.

Q2: Would the migrate entry activity also change the entry's default volume?

The reason I am attempting this is because Vol1 keeps running out of space.

It runs out of space because it is the default volume for alot of folders.

When its full, we have to migrate entries to vol2 to make room.
