Question

Does Laserfiche need a Microsoft Exchange license?

asked on May 3, 2023

We currently have a Laserfiche user(it seems like a service account) in our Active Directory. It is currently occupying a license for Microsoft Exchange.

Does it need one to function? I'm assuming without it, it wont be able to send emails to users but I just wanted to confirm before I said anything.

Hi Nilson,

No, AD service accounts running Laserfiche services do not require Microsoft Exchange licenses. Laserfiche applications such as Forms and Workflow send email notifications via the SMTP protocol using the mail server SMTP endpoints and (optional) credentials that you specify. Any credentials used in the SMTP configurations are independent from the application service accounts.

Hope that helps,
Sam
