Search Syntax for LFACE Needs to be Included in Laserfiche 11 Documentation

posted on February 1, 2023

This came out of a discussion on another post: https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/205849/Administrator-override-to-delete-a-folder-in-Laserfiche-even-if-you-do-not-have-rights-to-all-child-objects#205861

But it seems like the search syntax for LFACE items are not in the support documentation for Laserfiche 11.  It can be found on the support site in a PDF titled "Advanced Search Syntax 10.3.pdf", but doesn't appear to show anywhere in the Laserfiche 11 documentation.

It would be a good idea to have that updated to include that in the  documentation.

Additionally, it doesn't appear that the LFACE search has an option to search for entities where the rights inheritenace has been disabled.  That would be helpful to be included as an option, since that can be unchecked without any other rights granted/denied, so it doesn't show on the other searches, but can result in different permissions for that entry and its children.

To request updates to documentation, KB articles, etc. you should use the link on the homepage of the Laserfiche Support site named 'Request Educational Materials'.

Cool, thank you @████████- I've submitted that about adding LFACE to the Laserfiche 11 documentation.

Regarding the other part, where there doesn't appear to be a way to search the LFACE options to see documents with inheritence disabled - I do think that would probably require development.

But it seems like the search syntax for LFACE items are not in the support documentation for Laserfiche 11.  It can be found on the support site in a PDF titled "Advanced Search Syntax 10.3.pdf", but doesn't appear to show anywhere in the Laserfiche 11 documentation.

This is a case where everything in the "Advanced Search Syntax 10.3" white paper still applies to/works in Laserfiche 11 and we simply haven't slapped a new date and version number on to indicate that the info is still current.

We do understand that seeing older version numbers on documentation resources like that can lead to reasonable uncertainty on if the information still applies, so thank you for submitting the documentation update request through the support site.

In the other thread, you said:

Frustratingly, the documentation I have about the LFACE search is in a PDF named Advanced Search Syntax 10.3 - it doesn't appear to be included in the Laserfiche User Guide version 11.

The Advanced Search Syntax documentation has been a standalone white paper since Laserfiche version 9 because it's a nearly 80 page long technical reference for power users, process designers, and admins. That level of detailed information doesn't necessarily belong in the more end-user focused Laserfiche User Guide, though a mention of/reference to the whitepaper in the Search section would certainly be appropriate.

Thank you @████████- that is helpful.

It is a good idea to at least reference the document exists a couple times within the search syntax area of the domentation.
