Question

Offline license or Separate license site

asked on October 6, 2022

Hi,

Would like to get some more information and I will explain some more details:

We have a RIO license and sharing our LF Suite licenses across multiple servers in the same Network and Domain, we however have another Environment which is not part of our Domain or Network (We are not allowed to join for Security and Regulatory Reasons).

1. Is there a way to create an offline license from our LFDS without having any connections opened through VPN or NATing done?

2. If no to the above, Is there a way to split and create an additional license site by Requesting Laserfiche to create a sub license key for us instead?

Any suggestions are welcome

Kind Regards,

Gert

Hi Gert,

  1. No. Applications that require application licenses from LFDS (e.g., most components except the Windows Client suite) must be able to reach LFDS on port 5048 on a continuous basis in order to validate their licenses. Application services will not successfully start without passing their license validation checks.

  2. Potentially. It wouldn't be a "sub license key", it would be splitting your Rio user/app licenses into two separate primary licenses with different serial numbers and activation keys and then having two LFDS instances, one in each environment.

For example, if your current Rio license has 100 Full users, 1 Import Agent, and 1 Quick Fields Complete, a potential "split" could be:
    • License 1: 70 Full users; 1 Import Agent
    • License 2: 30 Full users; 1 Quick Fields Complete

If you'd like to proceed that way,  reach out to your SP/Laserfiche sales contact and feel free to reference this Answer post.

Please note that the above is a description of a technical solution to the network communication issue you raised and not a pre-approval by Laserfiche to split your license that way. Not something I have the authority to grant myself.

Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Thank you, that is what I thought, but needed to double check. I will discuss this with our SP to raise with Laserfiche and put a formal request in for this for approval. Much appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Gert
