11 Upgrade Question

asked on August 4, 2022

Can LF Directory Server be upgraded to 11 while the LF Server is still on version 10.4, and everything still works properly?

I'm planning an upgrade to 11. Both our Production LF Server and Sandbox LF Server are connected to the same LFDS, so I can't really do a test upgrade on LFDS, I'll just have to try it straight in production, which is a little scary, but I'll have a server snapshot to fall back on.

I second upgrading LFDS to 11 first, and it is fully compatible with Laserfiche Server 10.4.

From the latest Directory Server 11 Release Notes:

Upgrade Information

Directory Server 11 can be installed over existing Directory Server 10, Directory Server 9, and License Manager 8.3.1 installations.

When creating a Directory Server licensing site, you have the option of importing data from a License Manager 8 database into the new Directory Server licensing site. The import process will migrate registered application information, named users license assignments, and version 8.3.x Active Directory group synchronization rules into the Directory Server site.

Directory Server 11 requires Laserfiche Server version 10.2.1 and later or Laserfiche Server 10.1 Update 3 (KB 1013882).

Upgrading Directory Server from versions prior to 10.4.3 requires changes to STS configuration (KB 1014134).

While not explicitly stated, all other Laserfiche 10.4 applications work with Directory Server 11 as well.

We upgraded LFDS to 11 before we did anything else. I'm pretty sure that's the preferred order.

So that means that I don't have to do the LF Server and LFDS at the same time? I can just do LFDS first and do LF Server later?

That's what we do/did. We always roll out updates in stages and I'm pretty sure we always start with LFDS (i.e., top-down).

I still wouldn't put off the LF Server updates too long, but there shouldn't be any compatibility issues going in that order.
