Laserfiche Web Access Extension Removed from Chrome Store?

asked on June 27, 2022

We're trying to install the Web Access Extension on a few workstations (in Edge) but it no longer appears to be available in the Chrome store.  Sites like Laserfiche Web Access Extension (chrome-stats.com) are reporting that it was removed from the Chrome Web Store on June 22, 2022.  There is no Microsoft Edge version of the extension to use either.

Does anyone know if this is a temporary issue or if the extension will no longer be available?  Is there an alternative?

We've resubmitted the extension to the store and it is pending approval. I hope it will be quick since no code changes were required, but it's hard to speculate about their processes.

We're investigating why the extension is no longer available from the Chrome store and what we can do to restore it. In addition to what Sam says about the extension only being required for pre-10.4.2 web client, it's also worth noting that Firefox has its own distribution mechanism that isn't impacted by this.

Hi Stephane,

It should be noted that the extension only applies to older versions of the web client. For 10.4.2 and higher, the extension is unnecessary and WebTools Agent should be used instead.

@████████: We're currently using Web Client 10.4.2.214, so perhaps we do need to switch over to using WebTools Agent.  I'll investigate that.  We have plans to move to 11 this summer, so it sounds like we'll want to leverage that there as well.

@████████: Firefox isn't an option for us at this time, unfortunately, and Edge is the standard our organization is getting behind.  If you find out why the extension isn't available in the meantime I'd appreciate an update to this post.

I just did a quick check and it looks like the extension is back on the Chrome store, so that helps with our immediate issue.  Thanks for helping to get that back in place rather quickly.  We're going to continue to look into switching over to WebTools with our upcoming upgrade to 11 as well.

Hi,

@████████ or whoever is out there from Laserfiche:

I'm resurrecting this older thread to mention that the Web Access Extension has gone missing from the Chrome store again.  I'm not sure if that's by design or not, but unfortunately (and it's a long, painful story), we haven't been able to switch over to using Web Tools yet and still require the extension for what's hopefully only a short time longer.

Can it be reinstated again please?

The extension is no longer supported by Chrome (or Laserfiche). The extension has been superseded by Laserfiche WebTools Agent since version 10.4.2 and is not needed by any of the currently supported versions of Laserfiche web client.

Thanks Miruna.  Is there any known way to install it outside of the Chrome store for now?

It wouldn't help because Chrome would immediately disable it as not being supported anymore.
