Question

ImportAgent will not import PDFs after upgrade.

asked on June 3, 2022

We just upgraded to LF Client 11.0.2201.233. However, the ImportAgent is running 10.4.0.193., and this is probably the entire reason for the problem.

IA will not import PDFs. Even if I have the configuration set to import all files, no luck. I have read some other posts in which they posted the contents of the event log, but I can't find how to get to that, seems my credentials are not working. What happens is they are redirected to the error folder in Windows Explorer.

Just a simple upgrade, or something deeper?

Matthew, thanks for replying.

I solved my issue. I was using some dummy files that I just slapped a .pdf suffix on. It wasn't a real PDF, although one would never know it by how it looked in file explorer. ImportAgent wouldn't touch them. Once I started using real files instead of test ones, no problems. ðŸ˜€

The version of the LFClient shouldn't matter.

The version of the LFServer might matter, but probably not, especially if LFImportAgent is running within a few versions of LFServer.

I'm running LFImportAgent 10.4.0.193 and LFServer 11.0.0.1143, and PDF files are importing without any issues.  Since we're on the same version of LFImportAgent, I'm guessing the version is not your issue.

I commented on your other question about checking the Event Viewer logs, as those likely have some answers.

Oh, that makes sense.  Because of how PDFs are handled, it isn't just a matter of copying them into the repository, it's going to try to generate pages and gather text, stuff like that.  If it cannot read the PDF, it's going to throw an error for that reason.

When I first read your post, I had searched around LFAnswers and had seen some similar posts about issues related to encrypted or password protected PDF files, things like that.  Same problem, it cannot open and read the PDF properly.
