Does Web Access support scanning from within an iFrame?

asked on May 16, 2022

Client is unable to scan when using the web client through an iFrame.  Verified scanning works in the web client after installing the web scanning module, just not when through an iFrame.  Has anyone had success scanning this way?

Web Access version 10.4.2.73

So, if I understand this correctly, you have web client hosted in an iframe window? And then you're trying to use web scanning (not desktop scanning) from within that iframe? Web scanning uses an iframe within web client, so I suspect the issue is that you've now got an iframe within another iframe and things... break.

I don't believe this was intended as a supported configuration, but we'd be interested to hear more about what you're trying to do so can consider supporting it in the future.

I haven't tried this personally, but I would suspect this behavior has less to do with the capabilities of the Web Client and more to do with how iframes are handled/restricted in modern browsers.

When opening any page within an iframe, browsers severely restrict what the "child" page can do and it is fairly isolated from the parent window so it may not have access to the scanning module.

I haven't tried it recently, but I would expect it to work. We updated the technology we use somewhat recently to address this and other problems (see related thread https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/156846/Problem-launching-Word-from-Web-Client-IFrame). The main change there is using the Web Tools Agent rather than the browser extension. It's definitely available in version 11 but I believe it's also included in the latest 10.4.2 releases. If you haven't installed the Agent on the scanner machine, give that a try. You can go to Options/Advanced to check if it's running and install it if it's not.

The download for the Agent is .exe which wont work with iFrame.  Is there something else that can be downloaded to use the client to scan on a mac?

I'm not aware of any Laserfiche scanning applications that are supported on a mac.  However, you could use a mac-native scanning application to create the documents on a network drive, and then use Import Agent or Quick Fields to import documents into Laserfiche from that network drive.
