Question

Detect if LfWebOffice110.exe is installed

asked on April 27, 2022

Hi All,

When using the web client, you're prompted to install the LFWebOffice110.exe when interacting with MS Office files, from the LF Web Server (C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\Web Files\OfficePlugin) is the local location.

However when working with VDI or Citrix installations and troubleshooting issues client side, it's tricky to tell if this is installed or not as it doesn't seem to appear in programs and features in control panel.

I might be missing something obvious here, but how can you tell if it's installed or not?

Cheers!

Chris Douglas

Hi Chris,

LFWebOffice110.exe is a single-file self-extracting installation package that contains the same content that installing the office plugin components would have, it's simply bundled into one file these days for ease of download. When it's launched, it runs the same installation package for the office ribbon components that is bundled with the windows client and appears or does not appear in Programs and Features in a similar way.

LfWebtools.exe is one of the files installed by the office plugin integration (in both scenarios, since they are the same installation package*). This is the local agent running on the client machine that helps the office plugin interact with the web client without some browser limitations.

*Of course the specific build version might be different between the two depending on patches and the specific patch/update version of the windows and web clients, but fundamentally it's the same thing.

The agent is part of the Office Plugin installation, so it doesn't get its own ARP entry. Office Plugin does have an ARP entry, and if it's installed then the agent should also be present. You could also look for the agent executable in C:\Program Files (x86)\Laserfiche\Webtools Agent\Laserfiche Webtools Agent.exe.

Thanks for the reply Brian,

Just to be clear this isn't the web tools agent, this is the web installer for the office components within the web client LfWebOffice110.exe, which is somehow different to the office integration components (the office ribbon/com add-in) bundled with the windows client, web tools is LfWebtools.exe which is something different again.

What I'm trying to work out, is if there is a way on the client machine if you can see if the LfWebOffice110.exe is installed.

Thanks Justin, everything makes perfect sense now. I'm guessing the issue I was experiencing was due to a mismatch in versions, producing this error when trying to edit a MS office document in the Office desktop client.
