Hello,

We've recently run into this error message when certain users are trying to open PDF's from our repository. We haven't made any major changes to the repository or permissions that I'm aware of, the only change in our environment is switching to Foxit PDF Editor for some users. I'm able to open the files in question from one of our user complaints, so I'm not entirely sure where the issue could lie. Unsure if anyone has seen this similar behavior, but I've read a few posts that indicated issues showing up with Adobe as well so I don't think the change in PDF editor is contributing. We've also attempted the fix listed in this post Unable to display the electronic file type for this document - Laserfiche Answers to no avail.

Sounds like their workstation isn’t recognizing your PDF reader. I’m not familiar with FoxIt, but have seen this issue many times on stations where installing Acrobat Reader was overlooked (most recently my boss’ machine just last week). I recommend checking windows file extension mapping to ensure PDFs are opening with the right software. Also the options menu in the windows client has some options to configure whether PDFs are opened with the Laserfiche viewer or the default PDF viewer.

So I performed a reinstall of Laserfiche, with no change to the behavior on the one system, but changed the PDF opening behavior to open with the associated app (Foxit in this case) and it opens just fine. So it seems to be something not working correctly with the Laserfiche internal viewer on these machines, but if a reinstall didn't fix it, I'm not sure what would.
