Snapshot- Shared Desktop migration to Azure-Window's Credential not getting saved

asked on March 14, 2022

Hello,

Customer is testing migration to Azure and their user are reporting back to that when they configure Snapshot it doesn't save the windows authentication settings.

We found out that this is a Shared Desktop. Each host has multiple users signed in.

We believe this is the issue as we think those settings are stored locally, correct?

Has any tried this scenario before with any luck?

Appreciate the feedback,

Jeff Curtis

Hi Jeff-

Just to chime in here, we use Snapshot in a Citrix environment with Windows Authentication and the settings are user-specific and follow them. When they connect it can be any of like 50 host servers and a dozen so people can connect to any given server at once.

Luckily, I only have to maintain the LF side of things; I know our Citrix team manages various settings, including ensuring that those local setting registry keys follow the users between host servers.

Hi Jeff,

I believe the config setting is stored in a registry key under "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Snapshot8\Profile\CurrentUser". Look for a key called "Username", which should have a value of "<wa>" for "Windows Authentication".

Even in a Windows Virtual Desktop/Terminal Server scenario with shared hosts, each user should have their own user profile and corresponding HKEY_CURRENT_USER (HKCU) registry area. It's possible the user accounts are so locked down they do not have sufficient permissions to write HKCU reg values, so the settings aren't "sticking". I'd have an IT admin try running the "Snapshot Configuration (Current User)" utility As Administrator, choose Window Authentication, and see if it persists in that scenario. If it does, they have a permission issue.

Hey Sam,

Just to follow up, the issue still persist, and below is the comment from their IT Admin:

"I logged on to Laserfiche user's session and looked at the registry and the username value is wa. I ran the snapshot configuration utility as administrator but the Windows Authentication option did not stick and reverted to username and password."

Since they see  Registry Setting for Username with "<wa>", would this be a HKCU permissions issue or possibly something else permissions wise?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hey Jeff, I was out of office. Could you open a support case for this issue and reference this thread? I unfortunately don't have any immediate ideas for what to try next.
