Upgrading LF from 9.2 to 10

asked on August 26, 2021

We might be upgrading our LF from 9.2 to 10.  Anyone have tips, insights, or things to watch out for when we upgrade?  I have not been through a LF upgrade so this is a first for me.  We also use Quick Fields and LF Audit Trail reporting.

Thank you in advance.

It can be a larger process than you expect, seeing that you are on 9.2 I expect your server is a bit dated as well.

Would suggest you refresh the environment as well to lastest OS, etc.

Typically we would tackle this by starting with a new up to date VM to install the new software on and then migrate the Repository, Workflows, etc to the new system as opposed to performing the upgrade in place.

Would suggest you reach out to your SP for recommendations

I concur with Steve's suggestions here. Given the age of the existing system, we'd typically recommend standing up a new clean Laserfiche 11 system (go to 11, not 10) on new Windows Server 2019 instances and migrating your data over to it.

In my experience going from 9 to 10 simply requires running the wizards, I have done it nearly 100 times with very few issues. Only difference is that the version 10 installers require more manual steps compared to the version 9 installers. IE: ending task on processes, stopping services, and renaming a file in the workflow folder, but they will step you through each thing.

If you don't have the original version 9 installers (to roll back with, using backups of the databases) then you might want to start with a new operating system so that you can roll back to the original. I have only ever had to roll back once or twice.
