Question

How to change windows client directory server url?

asked on July 21, 2021

Hi,

I am upgrading to Laserfiche version 11 and its the first time I'm using a Directory Server. When logging into repository with the windows client, how can I change the URL that gets suggested for the directory server (see highlighted URL in screenshot)?

Thanks, Shah

Try also setting the LFDSSTSUrl value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\Settings. I tried that and verified it works.

The default STS url can be overridden with a registry value on the Laserfiche client machine:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\{repositoryName}Settings\LFDSSTSUrl

e.g.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\MyRepositoryNameSettings\LFDSSTSUrl

If the Laserfiche server is licensed through the Directory Server, it advertises the location of the Directory Server to the clients.

You can type in an alternate STS location if your Directory Server has multiple ones.

Thanks for your reply. I am aware that you can type in a different URL. I would like to have it default to the correct URL though (easier for users, fewer support calls).

Our site is behind a load balancer so we use a different URL to connect than what was used to install the server.

Is there no way to change the URL after installation?

I am having the same issue. The 'advertised' address of the LFDS server is the FQDN and not the accessible address to public machines. For example the default address shows something like: 'https://SERVER-01/LFDSSTS'

Whereas the intended and accessible url could be more like: 'https://laserfiche.company.com/LFDSSTS' How would you go about changing this by default? Thank you.

I am in a similar boat Christian, except using a failover cluster for LFDS. I think the HKEYs above are the way to resolve it but I am still testing.. seems really convoluted to have to set up a GPO or script to set these HKEY values for every client and for every different repository.

EDIT: I believe I was able to resolve this issue but putting in the fully "accessible url" inside of the Cluster Role settings in LFDS. That updated the license file for LFS and now my test LF Windows Clients seem to be picking that up. Not sure if this would resolve issues for people not in a cluster set up. I will have to test it more.

Hi John, sounds like a potential solution then! I found the simplest way was to add DNS resolution so the default LFDS server name can be resolved instead of trying to rewrite it with scripts/policies etc. This has been working great for us.

The problem we had with the policy is that each client installation is separate per machine and per user. So every existing and new windows profile required the updates... it seems very convoluted as you say.
