Audit Trail 11 Install Information/Guide Request?

asked on July 15, 2021 Show version history

We are having an issue with the Audit Trail 11 installation configuration step. While the program installed successfully, it seems we cannot get it to connect to any location we provide during the "Config Index Location" pop up window.

We have tried a local drive and the network location for our indexed files. We are met with a front error "Failed to Connect to to server. Try again later. "

A console error

And an event error

From the errors it seems that the lffts is suppose to have a web endpoint but none of the documentation available in answers or the administration installation guide mention this dependency.

How do we get past this step so we can complete the configuration?

Marie, we recommend that Audit Trail can use an individual LFFTS on the same server in order to have better performance. But if you insist to use the shared LFFTS, you have to modify the configuration file with the following instructions:

  1. Stop Laserfiche Audit Trail Importing Service and Laserfiche Audit Trail Reporting Service
  2. Open "%ProgramData%\Laserfiche\AuditAnalytics\ImportService.json" and "%ProgramData%\Laserfiche\AuditAnalytics\ReportService.json", modify all the "Host" property under "Fts" from "localhost" to the machine name where LFFTS is installed
  3. Start Laserfiche Audit Trail Importing Service and Laserfiche Audit Trail Reporting Service

Hi Marie,

It looks you have not installed LFFTS properly on the local machine along with Audit Trail 11. I suggest that you can re-run the Audit Trail installer and make sure Full-Text Search Engine is selected and installed successfully before opening the configuration site.

In terms of the documentation, there's already a KB1014189 that might give you some help and more help guides will be published soon.

If you need further help or have additional requests, don't hesitate to let us know.

Regards,

Leon

Thank you for the additional insight Leon. We currently have LFFTS installed on a separate server. Does Audit Trail need it's own installed on the same server in order to work?

@████████ why, after a year, has this information not been added to the KB you linked above?

And, why isn't defining the LFFTS part of the config?

Also, it looks like the system uses the defined server in the json files as the reference point for the storage location. So, we mounted a new folder to the audit trail server, changed the json file to point to the LFFTS server, but the folder path couldn't be found (E:\Folder) until I defined the folder as on the audit trail server (\\auditrailserver\E$\Folder).

This is a mess! I think this process really needs to be cleaned up.

We put LFFTS on its own server because it was an extreme resource hog when we had it on the same server as everything else.

Yeah, I'm sticking with AT 10 until things get fixed up with AT 11.

Kenny, The KB1014189 has been updated. Thanks for your suggestions and we fully understand your concerns. How to improve the user experience about LFFTS configuraton is on our roadmap.

KB: 1014189 suggests putting LFFTS on the same machine as AT (and run as the Search Engine).

But... you also need it installed on the same machine as LFS to access the audit logs since you can't save audit logs to a different machine. I didn't see any documentation on this.

We have a separate server handling LFFTS (where users search text in the repo) so that part was a bit confusing. So now we have LFFTS running on 3 servers but only one is for searching text. Nothing confusing about that at all :)

We use a single LFFTS server for everything.

You have a separate AT, LFFTS and LSF server and you only use one LFFTS? Impressive! lol

I could not get AT to find the AT logs on the LFS server until I put LFFTS on the LFS server. Probably because I have AT service running as localhost, it couldn't see the LFS server...

Yep. And don't forget Forms Auditing as well.

Try running the service as a domain account that has access to the LF Server Audit location and it should work.

Ya I thought about that but really like the idea of LFFTS running on the AT server doing all the AT work. Seperates the resources nicely.
