Trouble installing Connector 10.3 correctly

asked on June 27, 2021

When I try to run Connector (10.3.0.273) I get the error message: "Could not load file or assembly 'LfLicenseReader.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found.

I tried the following sequence of steps:

  • Uninstall every Laserfiche component from my PC.
  • Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributables to ensure that Laserfiche install can add the version it prefers.
  • Reboot
  • Install client components from the Laserfiche Rio install package.
  • Reboot
  • Install Connector. This installation appears to proceed flawlessly.
  • Try to run Connector. Was presented with the error message described above.
  • Reboot
  • Try to run Connector again. Same error occurs.

At this point, I can't think of anything new to try. I welcome any ideas. Has anyone else seen this?

Everything is working now, and I didn't have to have my computer re-imaged, which I was almost ready to do.

The plugin problem was fixed with uninstall/reinstall.

What finally fixed the problem with Connector was when someone suggested I uninstall it by running appwiz.cpl instead of "Add and Remove Programs". Then when I reinstalled, it worked. It was that easy. I hope this helps someone else.

Hi Tim,

What if you logon to the affected PC as a different windows user, do you see the same errors?

Cheers!

Thanks for the great idea, Chris. I just tried logging in with my local admin account and got the same results.

Hey,

Hmmmm, ok. Can you install it on another PC ok?, i.e. is it isolated to your PC or is it a network wide problem?

Cheers!

Not sure. I could try to get someone else to try installing it on their PC and see what happens. I'll need to wait a few minutes to start calling people, though.

My install includes the  Profile Creator, so not everyone will have that but I do have it working successfully (with profile creator) on a server that I can use via RDP, so I know the app can work on the network.

I'm wondering if the trouble could have to do with the history of my installation attempts. The first time I tried, install failed saying it wasn't able to install all prerequisites. I bypassed prerequisites and it wasn't fully functional, so I uninstalled Connector. After various experiments, I uninstalled the older-version C++ libraries and reran the install. The installer then reported success installing  prerequisites and that left me in the current condition.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

aaaahhh ok. The error does sound like an underlying C++ issue, and the fact it works on other PC's kind of confirms it's something related to your own PC.

In terms of next steps, I would either re-install the OS on your machine (or re-image it if possible) or if you wanted to try a 'half way' house before then, you could try totally uninstalling all the C++ components and re-installing them first, before re-installing all the LF components.

Good luck!

I just found another issue. I can now no longer start up Outlook. I get a message, "Class not registered". while trying to load Laserfiche Outlook add-in. When I acknowledge that, the load gives up.

This might come to the place where I have to ask to have my computer re-imaged.

Someone pointed me to this page. It didn't help in my case, but I'm posting it because it might help someone who finds this thread on a search:

Outlook plug-in issue is probably related to removing VC++ Runtime or having an outdated.

There might be a better error in the event log when the plug-in crashes.

You can also try logging the install so we can see where exactly it failed. To log the installer, run it from an elevated command prompt as

<path>\setuplf.exe -log <path to save log files>
