Question

Configuring Mobile for No Session Timeouts

asked on June 18, 2021

We have a customer looking to eliminate automatic timeouts for users on their mobile app. Not sure if this is possible.

I found the below article confirming that if enabling the Mobile Configuration Timeout, it will take precedence over any other timeout configurations in Forms, DS, etc.

So we enabled it and set to 0. I figured this would either be instant or forever. Well it is not instant, and it lasts for at least 1 hour in testing. But if I wait 4 hours, I get logged out still.

I would like to know the answer to this too.  My VP wants there to be NO timeout and also wants to be able to login using biometric fingerprint.  It 'looks' like this should be an option in the setup but it doesn't seem to do anything.

FYI, I tested setting the time out to 5000 minutes and it still times out in the same day...log in to app, switch to another app, lock phone, come back to it a couple hours later and open the app and it prompts for credentials again.

I also tried this in a different environment without any luck. I am not sure the original thread regarding order of precedence is accurate. I think that something takes priority over the mobile config.

Note that I posted the following back in February and got a reply from @████████.  I tried to ask for an update today but haven't seen any updates yet.  He says that the timeouts are apparently an issue when forms and repository are SSO, which ours are, I believe, since we have it all set up using Active Directory groups for single sign-on.  Also, he says biometrics only works at this point with Non-SSO forms and repository.

You have SSO as a feature of your "STS" / "DS Auth" configuration.

The original post I linked to did specify that they were working with an STS system though, the same as yours.

The other environment I am testing on is also setup for STS, but STS is just a requirement by Laserfiche for VARs to enable anytime a customer purchases any non-LDAP participant licenses. There is no options to turn it on or off like a feature.

Is the timeout different between the Forms connection and the Repository connection?  I just did some testing and I was able to log in to the mobile app, start an forms process, and then let it idle for 20 minutes and go back into the app and the forms session was still valid, but the repository session had timed out.

NOTE: I have the timeout check box unchecked on the mobile app's server configuration so there technically shouldn't be ANY timeout, although I understand this is a known issue.

My experience is the same as Chad's where there is no way to get past that 3 or 4 hour time out when using STS. Clients don't mind logging in once a day, but some would definitely prefer a week or more.

Looks like the final conclusion to this is that there is about a 6 hour timeout built into the application you install on your mobile device. We have confirmed this in multiple environments, server configurations do not take precedence over the code running on the client device.

You can configure up to around 6 hours.

Where can it be configured for six hours?  I really hope LF is developing biometric capability for SSO setups.

By setting both the Mobile and Forms configurations to 100,000 minutes it holds for about 6 hours.
