Sharing Laserfiche Files in Microsoft Teams

posted on September 21, 2020

Do you regularly use Microsoft Teams and find yourself wanting to share Laserfiche files in Teams' channels or chats?

The Laserfiche team is excited to begin work on an all-new integration with Microsoft Teams. With this integration, you’ll be able to access and share content from your Laserfiche repository directly in Teams' channels or chats – providing even more ways to collaborate and work efficiently, whether you’re working from home or you’re back in the office.

To help guide the functionality of this new integration, we’re looking for your input on scenarios where an integration between Laserfiche and Teams could improve your productivity. Please share your thoughts below on what would help your organization the most.

It would be beneficial to be able to use the "copy URL" function in the LF Cloud repository also in the MS Teams Integration so that the user doesn't have to go out of MS Teams and into the Repository to perform the step. Currently, my users will have to go into the LF Cloud Repository, right click and select "copy URL" then go BACK into MS Teams Tasks Planner and then Add Attachment and copy the URL in. If they were able to do all of their work directly in the MS Teams App and copy the URL it would save alot of work.

Thanks.

Hi Sherri, this is a great suggestion and I've shared with the Laserfiche team. We'll look into whether its something we can add.

It is indeed complete and released! More information can be found at the announcement post at: Announcing the Microsoft Teams Integration for Laserfiche Cloud - Laserfiche Answers

Being able to complete forms from Teams would be great (especially if we can assign access to forms based on team/group membership).

It would also be nice to have reporting/monitoring for tasks available in Teams.

Looking forward to this!

Hi Ian, glad this feature is continuing to be worked on. As Laserfiche Cloud customers, the two main features we would love to see are:

1. Share LF files in Teams Chat/Channels. Additionally, the ability to preview files that were shared without having to leave Teams. When needing to edit the file, there could be a button for Open in Laserfiche. This button would then launch the Laserfiche Cloud Web app.

2. Saving files shared over Teams to Laserfiche.

Ideally, these features would be available in the web, desktop, and iOS Teams apps.

Love the feedback, keep the ideas coming! And if you are reading the comments here, upvote or comment on the features that you would find most useful. Or let us hear your own ideas for what a Laserfiche Teams Integration could do for your organization!

Some of these are far more complex asks than others but:

  1. Federated Search within the Teams environment
  2. Component screens with tabs formatted similar to the sections of the "Home Screen" in cloud. So a tab for favorited documents, a tab for Forms Inbox, etc.
  3. Integration of Tasks through Planner in Teams is huge, ability for LF Forms assignments to hit Team Task Lists would be amazing.
  4. The already mentioned File tab storage changing to LF.

Thanks, Ramsey! These are great ideas.

On your third idea, do you have a specific use case or industry that you see regularly using Tasks through Planner? Are Office Tasks something you build processes around frequently?

There isn't a specific function for either that we're currently seeing but it's one that is inevitable because of the rapidly growing use and adoption of teams as the singular command and communication center that we're seeing in both large commercial and government organizations. with the recent integration of Tasks, to -do, planner into the Teams suite on both channel and user levels I think the ability for forms to insert or mark complete tasks will be a huge advantage.

Ian, my organization is transitioning to teams now and I was looking for exactly this, glad to see it is under development.

As to the use case you asked for above, all of our Laserfiche and Teams accounts are managed through active directory, meaning we use the same credentials for all.  By looking at the credentials, we could then pull tasks into teams.

Additionally, for my organization, the number one value add would be to be able to fill out and approve forms through teams, which the above tasks hitting team task lists would be a huge enabler of.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you need more specifics.

I'm glad to hear we're investigating this integration. There's been a lot of interest in this topic lately, as more and more people are moving to Teams. Two features that I would like to see in this integration:

- Changing default file storage location to a Laserfiche repository.

- Approving Form tasks from a Team or through a Teams chat

I agree with Alan on being able to change the file storage location to point to a repository. I often receive files on MS Teams and would like the ability to save them straight from the chat into Laserfiche.

I'll echo this 100%, the ability to replace the files storage location while maintaining similar look and feel would be fantastic. I know we can currently embed the Laserfiche Web Client using a 'website' tab but the simplified file tab for each channel is cleaner for the use cases.

Thanks, Ramsey, Esther, and Alan! Integrating Laserfiche in as a file storage location is something we are looking at for Cloud. Teams support to connect to self-hosted systems is more limited but we are investigating.
