Feature Request - Microsoft Teams - Files Tab

asked on August 17, 2020

Hi,

Please can I raise a feature request to allow the ability to share documents from Laserfiche to a MS Teams chat?

You can currently share documents using the files tab and add extra tabs from other applications, it would be nice to see Laserfiche listed as an option here:-

Cheers!

Our Microsoft Teams Integration is now live for Laserfiche Cloud. You can share files Laserfiche files directly into chats and channels as well as save documents shared within Teams directly to Laserfiche. https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/185890/Announcing-the-Microsoft-Teams-Integration-for-Laserfiche-Cloud

Thanks for sharing this, Chris. That functionality is something we are looking at. How are you using the Teams files tab today? You mentioned sharing, what type of situations do you anticipate wanting to sharing Laserfiche files? Sharing as part of a process or more ad hoc files?

Hey Ian,

Thanks for the swift reply.

I would think this would be more around ad-hoc files as part of an on-going chat. It would be nice to be able to 'link' to a document in Laserfiche and collaborate, or perhaps even co-author.

Currently the only way to do this is to email an LFE shortcut (or drag to the desktop holding ctrl, alt and shift) or paste a web access URL to the document.

Cheers!

Pasting the web access URL is the most straightforward way to share within teams but that won't assist desktop only users. With that though, the options we are looking at in Teams will likely only be compatible with web access given the constraints we have. Any concerns about web access being mandatory to use Laserfiche with Teams?

Also, in case anyone missed it, web access has a convenient "Copy URL" button when right clicking a file in the repository that makes sharing much easier:

It is what it is, I can't see a web only integration being an issue, just to have the option at all would be a huge step in the right direction. Thanks Ian!

I am running into the same issue. Not having any integration with the files tab is a huge oversight and hinderance to adoption. I can't ask users to post or start a chat and attach all the files to then save to laserfiche, I want to right click and be able to browse the repo.

Same goes for sharepoint online integration, it only allows saving in one spot instead of opening the repo browser.

Hi Darren, this integration is only available in Laserfiche cloud, it isn't available for self-hosted customers.

yes we run cloud...

I have the teams integration installed and working, it just seems an oversight that within teams you have to save to laserfiche inside a post/chat, you can't go to the files tab within a channel and select the files you want to save to laserfiche.

Ah cool does this work for you?

It did!

not the most user friendly versus having it in the files menu, but better than nothing.

I had to select into each folder, then it would drill down into the sub folder, before I could then select the file in question and then it would take me to the next screen to browse the repo.

I can't select multiple folders or files at once easily if they are in sub folders.

It does work though.
