What to do when Subscription Licensing comes up for renewal

asked on July 20, 2020 Show version history

A customer is using the new yearly subscription licensing and it is coming up for it's yearly renewal. What needs to be done here besides making payment? Do we select to renew the master license and if so when do we do this? Within a time period before it renews, or within a time period after it renews?

Update: It starts asking you to renew once it hits within 60 days, but it says it doesn't exist in the dictionary yet and we are at 31 days.

General process:

  1. Pay invoice
    1. Subscription expiration is updated upon receipt of payment in full
  2. Renew master license after subscription is extended
    1. You can view the current expiration on the support site
  3. Renew expiring applications (Forms, Laserfiche Server, connector profile creator licenses)

Ideally all three steps happen before expiration to avoid any system outage, but it is possible to renew after expiration.

Both step 2 and step three can be configured to happen automatically within LFDS if you are on LFDS 10.4.3+ and Forms 10.4.2+.

However, if the master license renewal is failing on a system that hasn't yet expired, it is not likely to be because of the subscription expiration date

You mentioned "it doesn't exist in the dictionary yet" as the error, which sounds like an activation key issue. Perhaps the original activation was done via the activation tool, or you are encountering an unexpected error with renewal.

I'd recommend opening a support case and including the exact error, since even if the expiration wasn't updating, you shouldn't get any errors about "not existing in the dictionary".

Ok, I tried re-entering the key as well but in both cases it said it does not exist in the dictionary. I am not familiar with what the term dictionary refers to, I assume it is the repository of keys on the master license server that all DS servers talk to.

Update to this. You must restart the Windows Service, Laserfiche Directory Server, immediately BEFORE renewing subscription licenses to prevent it from thinking that the key is not present in the dictionary.

Found this solution on an answers post for a slightly different issue reading from the dictionary.
