Quick Fields subscription license shows with Grace Period

asked on July 15, 2020 Show version history

We have subscription licensed Quick Fields and we installed a new workstation with Quick Fields and QF Scanning.  The initial install was done remotely due to COVID and showed with the licensing message 'Grace Period 7 days' in QF Scanning.  So we had user drop off laptop for install to be done in office.  The setup did not allow to use the existing registration, it only allowed for register a new instance.(see attached)

Once this was done, laptop restarted, we opened QF Scanning (no licensing message) connected to the QF server successfully, then opened Quick Fields (again no licensing message) and were able to get the user on his way.

Once he connected via VPN at home and opened Quick Fields he got the 'Grace Period 7 days' message again.

I'm in need of assistance to correct this licensing issue before we hit the 7th day.

Hi Michelle,
Are there any differences between the first registration and the second one in LFDS? Can they successfully telnet into the LFDS machine while on the VPN?

telnet <"LicenseServer" value from application license> 5048

I'd also try comparing the license obtained with the VPN install to the license obtained with the internal network install to see if there's anything interesting. Feel free to have your SP contact the Support team and they can get a case opened for this.

Chase, I deleted the initial install registration from LFDS so wasn't able to compare the two.  I did try something else considering he is coming in via the VPN.  I had him use a hotspot vs. his ISP and the licensing error message (and the errors on the template) he was receiving didn't occur.  I'm having him use the hot spot again today to see if the error continues.  I did reach out to my solutions provider on this and they are aware and ready to open a case if need be.

Also, check LFDS to see what QF License Block is assigned to that laptop.  You may have to change to a diferent instance of QF in the License Block dropdown.

Bert, thanks for responding!  I will check the assigned license block, but the install doesn't have another instance of QF in the License Block dropdown.

Check the QF license file and see what it has for the LFDS Server name.  You may have to add an entry to the Host file on the Laptop to point it to LFDS server if the name is not resolving with DNS.
