Feature Request - Email Archiver to import legacy emails

asked on May 28, 2020

Hi All,

Been doing some testing with the new email archiver for Import Agent, and it seems to work pretty well.

The only thing which is missing, is the ability to archive legacy emails, so emails that were already in the mailbox before the monitoring rule was setup.

This was previously asked here https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/152954/Import-Agent--Email-Archive-For-Backlog-Emails#153036  but never followed up so thought it warranted it's own post.

I can't see any way to make it currently retrospectively import old emails, I'm assuming it simply can't do that at the moment?

If so please can I raise this as a feature request.

Cheers!

I use the lasted IA (IA 10.4 Update 1), and it works for me.

Is there any update on this?

Hi Chris,

After setting up a profile to monitor a specific folder, if the profile does not select "Retrieve unread messages and set their status to read", it will import all emails under that folder into the repository including emails that were already in the mailbox before the profile was setup.

For example, my "INBOX/test folder" already contains some emails, then I set up a profile to monitor the "INBOX/test" folder, after enabling this profile, all existing emails under the test folder are imported, and new emails that will come to the test folder in the future will be imported too.

Is it what you're looking for?

Thanks,

Tianxia

Thanks for the reply Tianxia.

No this isn't what I'm looking for exactly.

Let's say the customer buys Laserfiche and they want to import the last 10 years worth of emails from various users inboxes into Laserfiche using the email archiver tool. Currently this isn't possible.

Are you saying that if they mark the emails unread, Import Agent Email Archiver will import them? Also in this scenario, you'd have to create a profile for each subfolder in Outlook.

Cheers!

In your scenario, the customer buys Laserfiche, each user can create a profile to monitor the whole INBOX folder (assuming the INBOX folder is the root folder), and then all last 10 years emails will be imported into repositories by Email Archive according to your settings (all old emails exist under the root folder, am I right?). Does it work?

"Are you saying that if they mark the emails unread, Import Agent Email Archiver will import them?" - No. If the profile does not select the option "Retrieve unread.....", unread read old emails can be imported into repositories by Email Archive. Only if they select that option, they have to mark old emails as unread.

Oh, or are you looking to limit the past time? Like it should be the last 10 years, rather than the last 15 years?

Hi Tianxia,

So I've previously tested this, basically when you setup a rule to monitor the inbox, it will only import emails which arrive in that inbox after the profile has been configured. It's won't retrospectively go back and import old emails. This importing of old emails is what most people are after, to migrate everything from Exchange into Laserfiche.

Cheers!
