O365 records management in Laserfiche

asked on May 12, 2020

At this time when organizations all over the globe have launched Teams, Sharepoint and other MS products to work from home, I need to learn as much as I can about what Laserfiche can do to manage all the records being generated by these tools.  If there is some existing material available please point me to it.  If not, I would love to see Laserfiche develop some.

Are others using the capabilities of MS to manage retention within the MS suite and then using Laserfiche in records management areas where MS is weak or are they relying completely on one or the other?

Hi Joseph, I'll cover a few topics here.

For Teams, on our current backlog we are planning to implement a Teams integration to be able to send documents/files to Laserfiche that are shared in teams. This hadn't planned to include chat transcripts though which are exported separately (as .JSON files). Would you be looking to store chat transcripts or just shared documents on Teams?

For Sharepoint, we currently support archiving in 2013/2016 on-premises versions, and we have on our backlog sending documents directly to Laserfiche from Sharepoint Online and Sharepoint 2019.

For Office documents, we have an existing office plug-in that runs on desktop office products and can directly send documents to Laserfiche as well as archiving documents shared across Outlook. We also, have Office Online directly integrated into the repository assuming you are an O365/Office Proplus customer- Details here. This allows you to edit Office documents using the same office interface as office itself on documents within the Laserfiche repository. We are actively developing and improving our tools around our Office integrations as well.

We see many customers using Laserfiche as the records retention tool of choice for documents that are originated in the Sharepoint/Microsoft environment.

Hi @████████,

Great to hear you are working on Teams integration. This will be extremely useful in our post COVID-19 world. In addition to pulling files from Teams to LF, are you considering the ability to share LF files in Teams Chat/Channels. For example, this is functionality that exists in Box's Teams Integration.

On a related note, are you considering support for Web Outlook? This is a much requested feature in our organization, especially as users move away from desktop apps and towards web apps.

Thanks!

Hi Henry, thanks for the input and yes, sharing LF files in Teams would be part of the considered functionality.

Web Outlook support is being worked against as well.
