Generating LF Pages on a very large text file

posted on January 16, 2020

I tested using LF Snapshot on a few text files between 15-40 pages and everything worked fine with generating pages on them.

I tried doing the same thing on a 5000+ page text file but after the initial dialog where it was "printing" the pages into Snapshot, nothing has happened for a few hours. I'm not sure if Snapshot can even handle a document of this size. Is there another way we can generate pages on a document that is purely text?

Unfortunately in my experience snapshot seems to start having issues in the 500-800 page range depending on document as we are at the mercy of the Windows print spooler. For files larger than this we utilize Import Agent or break the job up into 800 page sections.

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. How can Import Agent help with this? I looked at the processing options and see options for generating text (we don't need that since it happens automatically on import), creating a new text page every x lines, and PDF file processing.

Thanks,

Maybe i misunderstood what you were trying to do. What file type are you printing into Laserfiche so you have permanent image data? Just a txt file?

Yes, we have a very large text file and want to generate pages on it. I actually was able to do this by opening it in Word and saving it as a PDF there, but then when I generated pages on that PDF in LF the generated pages were a different size from what they were in Word so some of the pages got cut off improperly.
