Forms licenses jumping around

posted on September 9, 2019

Anyone had this happen before? Over the weekend one customer noticed their forms marked as public were requesting credentials. I was using one of their forms publicly on Friday even from a remote site with no login, so I know it was working.

We performed a version upgrade over the weekend and everything appeared normal. Nothing was touched in terms of activation keys.

Today, I found that the public option was removed for all forms under Access Rights.

I went to their keys and tried swapping their key. The key which they were using, containing the public licensing was called Participant. So I tried the one called Portal and found that their public feature was now in the Portal key, along with their participant licenses of course. Previously both features were in the Participant Key. It just moved over the weekend.

Maybe it is related to the changes that enabled LFDS for Avante. We have Rio and the Forms Portal license has always been separate from participant licenses for our installations.

How do you install 2 keys? They have their participant and portal combined into a single key, but it just jumped from the participant key to the portal key over the weekend.

Are you talking about the Forms Authenticated Participants? I'm not really sure what you mean by Participant key.

In our environment, the Public Portal option is just a checkbox for the Forms server settings in LFDS (under Applications).

Oh LFDS works entirely different. Here we plug in a key for each product and it determines what features are available. Basically a feature jumped from one key to another randomly, the feature disappeared over the weekend, I had to swap keys before it came back.

Hi Chad,

All Avante customers have the option of using LFDS now.

As for the Avante keys, some customer want to have both Participant users and the Portal on the same server, some want them separated. As a result, we put the Portal license on the Participant key as well, while the Portal license is kept unchanged.

This configuration has been there for years.

Hi Ben

Yes, the key labeled Participant used to contain the Portal feature until this weekend. Now it no longer does. I had to switch out their license for the key labeled Portal to get it back.

I think calling these keys Participant and Portal is overly confusing since the label for the key has nothing to do with which features it contains.

Basically the key labeled Participants had both portal and participant licenses and something changed where the portal was removed. Just seemed very odd, never seen licensing jump like that before.

Hi Chad,

I actually meant to say the "Portal key" contains both Forms participant license and the Forms portal license, while the Participant key contains only the Forms participant license, and that hasn't changed.

Admitted that the names are confusing. We will be making some change on that.
