Adding memory to server causes LFDS error

asked on June 26, 2019

We want to add memory to our VM but dong so causes the hardware fingerprint to change and puts the LFDS in a limited functionality state. We had to change the memory size back to its original size to restore the fingerprint. Trying to renew the Master license file didn't work via the LFDS settings page. What are the correct steps to add memory to a VM running Rio 10.4?

Thanks in advance.

I'll let the LF team spell out the full procedure you need, but one thing that we always-always-always on installation do is to run Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\showhwfp.exe (Show Hardware Fingerprint).  Capture this information and save it in multiple places, so that you can reactivate if necessary.  We also build the deactivation command line up front and save it with the hwfp and activation/master key. This helps mainly with Avante, but we do it for RIO also.  If you do this after you have made a change, you can't deactivate and reactivate the license.

Thanks Bill. Our LFDS is on the same server as the Laserfiche Server installation so we can click the +Application button in LFDS and get the HWFP but then we didn't know how to update the master license with the new fingerprint so we just undid the memory change. Hopefully someone will give us the complete steps. Do you know how to get a copy of the master license file? We've ALWAYS had to have someone from Laserfiche send it to us.

Regards,

Jim

James, you need to follow the instructions found in Deactivating Laserfiche Products using the RIO activation key to deactivate your master license.  Then update the VM hardware settings and then through the LFDS, reactivate the license.
