Feature Request - Import Agent - Limit Number of Cores

asked on January 28, 2019

Hi All,

I know this is possible through the registry by setting:-

Per Import Agent to limit the amount of cores, there are configuration set in registry key. When you update it, you would better to backup your registry key. Open registry key and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Laserfiche\Import Agent\Settings, add string value named as ParallelMode and set its value as true, add string value named as ImportThreadCount and set the number you want.

As discussed here - https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/143434/Import-Agent-Configuration#143575

However I think this should be a congurable option within the Import Agent Configuration utility.

For the majority of larger customers, this isn't an issue as they have dedicated Import Agent server or can share a resource with something else, for small systems on Avante however this isn't an option, as often the customer will only have 1 Laserfiche server, which may even be shared with other applications.

This was never an issue with older versions of import agent which didn't support hyperthreading, but now sometimes when we upgrade the customer to LF10, IA just 'hogs' all the CPU and RAM on the customers server (as it's designed to do), and we have to intervene in the registry using the above to limit IA, not ideal, this should be a configurable option in my opinion.

Thanks!

Would you prefer that the default behavior is "classic mode" where hyperthreading is disabled? Or something in between where, say, only half the cores are used?

Hi Miruna, sorry for the late reply. I think it would make sense to have this in classic mode by default.

Hi Miruna!

Perhaps the default could be single core, and then any extra's are configurable? Larger sites will typically have more LF knowledge to know about these options.

I'm betting we are not the only VAR with small sites that have been caught out by this. frown
