How to keep "Date Taken" with pictures that are imported into Laserfiche

asked on January 14, 2019

Our Emergency Services department is now using Laserfiche, and I have a question in regards to pictures.  When a picture is taken with a camera and uploaded onto a computer, you can check the properties to see when exactly that picture was taken with the camera.  Is there a way to do the same in the Laserfiche repository?

They have pictures that are included with cases (fires, wrecks, etc.) and they may not be able to upload/import at the exact time while in the field.  We are not using Laserfiche Mobile at this time.

Steps that are being taken to get them into the repository time is uploading them to a folder on their Desktop and them dragging them into the appropriate folder in the repository.  This only has the creation date (which is when they hit the repository), not a date taken.  We really need for this to transfer over for legal purposes.  Are their different steps we can try?  Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

By default, image formats such as jpg/jpeg are converted to pages by Laserfiche. You can change this behavior by going to Tools > Options > New Documents > File Conversion.

If you remove the file type(s) that the photos are created as, then they will be stored as Electronic Files in the Laserfiche document. This will preserve the original file and all of the EXIF data therein.

Here's an older thread that is about this subject:  https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/58502/Retrieving-original-document-properties

If you are using the Windows Client, you can import the file into the repository and insert a token into a field.

If you are using the Import Agent it can also be configured so that you can insert the file creation date into a field as well.

The Web Client doesn't support this.
