upgrading rio 9.1 to 10.3

Have a system that is currently at 9.1 RIO with LFDS. LFDS and SQL are on one Server and RIO LaserFiche server is on another server.  Do I need to run that upgrade on LFDS first before the server upgrade or vice-versa? Will it automatically detect that I am using LFDS and upgrade it? The 10.3 expectations guide isn't clear on the order of the steps.

Weblink is also on another server separate using public portal.

First, you should renew the master license in LFDS so that it will allow for applications like the Laserfiche Server to license as version 10.3. Next, upgrade the Laserfiche Server to 10.3 before upgrading LFDS to 10.3. The reason is that Laserfiche Server 9.1 won't work with LFDS 10.3. Then go ahead and upgrade LFDS.
