Question

LFFTS service and Search Catalog on different servers

asked on September 10, 2018

Hi,

We've been having an ongoing issue of the Search index losing connectivity and the fix would be to detach/attach the the catalog to reindex or reboot the the server. The LFFTS Service and the actual search catalog are on two different servers, so I know that the cause is due to LFFTS losing connection to the the server the search catalog sits. I've read a few older forums (back in 2016) but got back mixed opinions on having these on separate servers vs not. So my Questions are:

If I migrate the search catalog to the same server as LFFTS, would it be fine to have the search catalog and the repositories on separates servers?

What are your thoughts on having the LFFTS and search catalog on separate servers?

I have a customer that is running the LFFTS on its own server separate from the LFS, but they have the catalog local to the LFFTS and not on a network drive.

The biggest reason that they wanted to keep the catalog local was to eliminate the extra overhead and network traffic as well as to allow the fastest possible access to the catalog files by the LFFTS.  They have been very happy with the configuration and have had very few issues with it.
