Question

License Allocation Directory Named User

asked on August 10, 2018

I have a small IT team that I would like to be able to add and remove users, which includes assigning licences for directory named users.

We're using V10.2.0.839

My help desk agents see this:

They have Manage Trustees, Manage Entry Access, Manage Templates and fields, Set Trustee Privales, View Activity Log, and Retrieve Audit Data. I'm trying to manage these permissions by group, but I can switch to individual for this group of people.

Hi Nicholas,

Two questions:

1) Are you using Laserfiche Rio? If so, you would allocate named licenses to directory users in the Laserfiche Directory Server, not the Lf Server administration console.

2) Are the people who need to assign the licenses members of the Laserfiche Server system manager group? https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFAdmin/Content/System_Manager.htm

Thank Justin,

We do not have directory server installed and it is not available in our downloads, so I do not believe that we have the Rio product. I believe we're using Laserfiche Avante.

Adding the help desk agents to the System manager group resolved it, but my main concerns are:

  1. I only want them to be able to set up and remove users, not do full Laserfiche administration (like workflows and deleting forms).
  2. I was able to add licencing to the user without being in that group.

The system manager group just provides you with the ability to do these types of server-wide operations, such as assigned licenses or view and manage currently connected sessions. It does NOT inherently grant other administrative rights such as managing workflows or, say, repository security.

Local administrators on the machine where the Laserfiche Server is installed are automatically members of this group, that's probably why you had it automatically.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thank you so much for the clarification.
