Question

Content Management Across Several Volumes

asked on June 1, 2018

I am planning the best approach to manage our content in Laserfiche.

The content I deal with is bound to many different regulatory requirements related to security, retention, backup and storage (archival). I learned through the online training courses that in such cases, it is good to consider hosting content with common regulatory requirements (as mentioned above) in one specific physical volume. The result would be multiple physical volumes where each one of them contains content that has common regulatory requirements.

My question is if I choose this approach, will it limit opportunities to utilize other great features like metadata, workflows, etc.? In other words, will I be able to design and run workflows that utilize data from several physical volumes? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

No; I don't believe you'll have limited opportunities. Yes; you can run workflows across different volumes.

We create a new volume every year for our data. I can't recall off the top of my head, but you want several volumes and you don't want them to get too large. We've never had any issues with workflows/metadata across multiple volumes.
