Feature Request - Enable SSL when creating connector profile

asked on February 27, 2018

Hi All,

This was discussed here and I was hoping it would of made it into the 10.3 connector as a feature but it looks like it didn't.

https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/111939/ssl-connection-in-LF-Connector#111945

Please can I raise this as a feature request, to enable a tick box for SSL connection to Laserfiche Server during profile creation.

Cheers!

Hi All,

Just to add to this, the customer requesting this is completely shutting off all http (80) communication across the network and only allowing https (443) so the workaround mentioned in the linked post will not work, as they will be unable to create the profile at all once port 80 is shut off at the end of the week. Please can we escalate this feature request.

Cheers!

Hello Chris, can you clarify what you mean by "the workaround will not work"? The only issue from that post is that there isn't a GUI item to use the secured port, but the profile can still be edited to specify that, and the functionality is there.

Hey James, The issue here is that if port 80 is totally blocked, you are unable to create the profile in the first place, as you can't get past the login section of the profile creation wizard. Hope this helps explain!

Looking at the prior post, the only action that was missing the SSL checkbox is the 'search' action. The reason that's not there in the profile creator is that you don't need to authenticate at the time of profile creation for the search action - there's nothing that connects to the repository there. This is in contrast to actions such as assigning templates and fields, where authentication during profile creation is needed to retrieve the repository field information.

Are you running into an action where you do need to authenticate during profile creation where the SSL checkbox isn't present?

Hi Justin,

Yes, that's correct. You can't get past the authetiction step in the profile creator when port 80 is closed. I haven't tested this myself but the customer assures me that when port 80 is closed they are unable to create a profile. They have Laserfiche setup internally using SSL.

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

My point is, there's no authentication step in the profile creator for the search action, and the actions that DO have an authentication step have a use SSL checkbox. Which action are they trying to run and where are they hitting an authentication step in the profile creator that does not have a use SSL checkbox?

To clarify, there is a step where it asks for the Repository information and how it should authenticate AT RUNTIME (prompt the user for credentials or use windows authentication), but it doesn't actually authenticate in the profile creator there.

Hi Justin

We enabled SSL configuration so when we enter the server name in the profile creator, the repositories are not listed instead we are getting "repository not found". When we enable port 80, we can see the repositories from the list box.

Hope this clarifies

Thanks

Kumar

When you configure on the wizard, you will notice that there’s no Use SSL Connection option on Laserfiche Repository step. In this case, we will always use the non-SSL connection to retrieve the repository list and server version after clicking next. Don't worry too much if you cannot connect to Laserfiche Server on Connector wizard. You can type the repository name manually and continue so long as you provided the correct one.

When you run this profile inside Laserfiche Connector, it will follow the same SSL option you used in Laserfiche Windows Client to connect to Laserfiche repository. Please have a check if any error occurs when you run this profile.
