Question

Web Access custom tabs

asked on February 6, 2018 Show version history

We were told that in order to create custom tabs in Web Access, one has to be on the web server itself, and logged into the repository as a Windows user who is an administrator on the web server.

This requirement seems... intense. I'm sure there are good technical reasons behind it, but it makes it a pain in the neck (to say the least) to create custom tabs because most of our clients don't use Windows accounts. So we always end up having to create the custom tab on our sandbox environment, export the user attribute, edit the XML and then import it to the customer's environment.

Are there any plans to make this more friendly?

Hi, Ege,

We've noticed a recent influx of users having trouble configuring custom tabs, so yes, we are definitely considering loosening the restrictions.

Also, just to clarify, you do not have to be logged onto the web client server machine itself. You could be accessing the web client Options page remotely to create the tabs.

Hi Alex,

We are running a site with just laserfiche Named Users, with a linked windows account. Is there a way to add custom tabs ?

Well, Kyle, I have great news for you. As of 10.3.1, we've removed the windows user requirement.

Upgrade to 10.3.1, and any of your users can configure these features so long as they have the Manage Repository Configuration privilege.

Also, the Windows user does not have to be an administrator on the web client machine. They can be a member of the Laserfiche Web Configuration Managers group created from the web client installer.
