Question

save as new version of document pdf

asked on February 2, 2018 Show version history

Hi,

I am trying to figure out what permission enables users to be able to save over a PDF.  As the administrator,  when I edit the PDF and save I have the option to save as a new version.

But my user does not.

I assume this is a permissions issue causing this, but I can not find the permission that enables users to be able to save as a new version.

Help and thanks.

Check if the user has the 'modify contents' entry access right on the document in question.

Yep, they have all rights under “modify contents” for the entire repository.

There is a version tracking option you might also check.

In the admin console under repository options, select settings and then right click for properties and then under the documents tab is an option to disable version tracking for users:

This option was unchecked.  I assume that is what I want, correct?

Yes.  Pretty sure it is unchecked by default but worth double checking!

I checked on all of the boxes under the access right and within rights on the admin console.  The user still did not have the option to "save as new version of document"

Maybe my assumption this was a permissions based problems was incorrect.   Any other ideas out there????

To test, I put the user in my "Repository Admin" group, which has all rights checked in the rights tab.  And sure enough, they were able to save the PDF as a new version.

But when I removed them from that group and just gave the individual user all the rights in the rights tab, they no longer had the option to save as a new version.

I don't get it....any help out there!
