Question

PDF to TIFF conversion through workflow

asked on January 31, 2018

So I had to recreate all of our documents from Lincdoc to LF Forms which has been going smoothly until I setup workflows to take the data from forms and fill in PDF's that can't be changed due to compliance reasons. Once these are in laserfiche they need to be stamped which PDF's don't allow. Currently I am getting them in as PDF's, but manually generating the pages and deleting the electronic file. Is there a way to automate this?

Bradley,

Workflow does not currently have the ability to generate pages, however, if you have Quick Fields (QF) or Import Agent (IA) there are ways around this limitation.

QF can generate pages from PDF, so you could place the documents in a temporary holding area, have QF sweep the folder to generate pages, then route the documents to their final holding area afterward.

If you do not have QF it gets a bit more complicated, but you could export the completed PDF to a network folder using an SDK script along with an XML file containing the metadata, then import it back into the repository with IA. The IA profile can be configured to generate pages on PDF documents.

I do have Quickfields, but how would I get the workflow to save it in a folder for it to pick up since I can only save it to the repository.

I apologize for the confusion, with regard to Quick Fields I mean a Laserfiche folder, not a network folder.

After your workflows fills out the PDF using the Form data, have it put the document in a Laserfiche folder that is monitored by the Quick Fields agent.

Import agent monitors pulls from network folders, but Quick Fields works inside of the Laserfiche repository.

I still can't get quickfields to access my laserfiche repository folders.

If I understand correctly, the most basic version of Quick Fields can't take Laserfiche documents as its input source. Contact your VAR for pricing on the version you need.

@Timothy,

If you're interested, you can try my Workflow activities. Can I send you an email with a link to download it?

Quick Fields includes Capture Engine in all bundles to pull documents from Laserfiche.

Hi Bradley,

There's a similar discussion going on over here:

There's a number of APIs that'll do the job. I wrote one into a workflow activity but if you have developers, they could write it for you too.
