Question

Laserfiche on Azure Servers and Azure SQL Server

asked on January 19, 2018

Looking for any documentation on running Laserfiche on Microsoft Azure Servers utilizing an Azure SQL server instance (not SQL Server installed on an Azure Server).  Would be interested in seeing a How To document on how to implement this.

Craig, I did a basic test of this on Laserfiche Server db in Azure SQL as per comment in this thread. I just used the migrate to Azure feature in SSMS. It seemed to work at least with some basic client usage but I'm not going to use it in production since i don't know what happens across things like Laserfiche version upgrades.

The basic answer is it's unsupported with no further comment from Laserfiche. We run SQL on Azure VMs and put LF dbs there for now.

Azure SQL has now been tested and works for all applications aside from Audit Trail. Audit Trail may work with the migration feature, but still falls under unsupported and untested.

The main "how to":

  • Be on version Laserfiche 10.4.2+ (April 2020, Directory Server 10.4.3)
  • Recommend to provision the Azure SQL database in advance, then attaching the database

That's my experience as well.  We had to create everything on a local installation of SQL then migrate it to Azure SQL.  Customer now wants to add another repository - LF won't do this on Azure SQL, so we'll need to create locally and migrate again.

I'm just wondering why Laserfiche hasn't worked on this configuration and provided a how-to?
