Question

Question

Use search to find empty folders (including empty nested folders)

asked on December 7, 2017

We have a very complex folder structure which is controlled by our contracting agency. It is several layers of nesting. When audits are performed they like us to denote (not delete) folders that are empty. Is there an advanced search syntax that can find empty folders so people do not have to open so many folders to see if they are empty?

I used {LF:Name="*", Type="F"}-{LF:ChildName="*", Type=DFS} in search syntax in the search pane. From source link below.

Thank you, this is very close. It misses the top layer parent folders but this gives me something to work with!

I don't know if you have Workflow, but you could also setup a workflow to tag empty folders. I just setup a workflow to test deleting out empty folders. In your case, you could add a tag activity instead of deleting.
