Question

Printing from AS400 to different repositories

asked on October 23, 2017

Hello everyone,

I was able to setup snapshot to print from a clients AS400 but how it was explained to me is the that print job itself is handled on the Laserfiche server machine. That means that we can only setup the configuration for one "profile". The question I have is that, can we add multiple snapshot "printers" each with there own configuration so that when we load these "printer" into AS400, the user could choose which printer to send a report to. The client has multiple repositories which is why this would be a nice feature. Thanks.

Last I heard, it was not possible to set up multiple snapshot printers on the same server.  This is because the driver is where the settings are stored, so even if there were multiple "Printers" they would be using the same driver, and thus, the same configuration.

I know this was true as of version 9, so unless it's changed in version 10 (which I haven't seen any sign of), I think your only option would be to point the AS400 at multiple servers (if possible, sorry, not really familiar with AS400) and have the different profiles configured on them.

Thanks Paul, I was able to find a solution that almost worked. Black Ice print driver had a management console which would allow to make multiple virtual printers with all their own setting. Unfortunately, because the AS400 output is a PCL print job, Black Ice has trouble and doesn't display the characters properly.

We've run into similar issues.  We use a separate program of our own design in conjunction with a 3rd party PCL converter and an SDK posting process to get around that.  Kind of a pain.

Which PCL converter did you use? We are about to go down the route.
