Is there a way to convert PDF attachments to a TIFF when it is saved to the repository. I see you can choose the format of the actual form, but not the attachment.

Generate pages for pdf attachment file is supported in the coming Forms 10.2.1.
Will I have the option to delete the original PDF format and just save the generated pages?
It just support generate pages based on PDF in 10.2.1, do you want it be able to remove the original PDF file?
Yes, I only need the TIFF. If you have an easy fix to extract pages from PDF's (and delete electronic file) in a different Laserfiche program, I could work with that, too. So far, I have not been able to find an easy approach to do this to multiple documents. There are some solutions offered in Answers, but I am not that advanced!
This is not supported currently, I added this to Forms to do list for support remove the original pdf after generate Laserfiche pages.
How do you turn on this feature. I need my form to generate pages and I have loaded 10.2.1 but cannot find where the setting is...

Never mind, I found out that the setting was to be configured at the user level. also created the workflow that combines all pages into one document and deletes the PDF electronic file.
Thanks
Tato
How did you do your workflow? Did you link it to an outside pdf/tiff converter to do it, or did you find an in program solution?
If you have 10.2.1 and set the user that forms is configured to use to generate pages when importing PDF's into the repository, it will automatically create Tiff images that are linked to the electronic document. The Move pages process in workflow can then move those pages into any other document and afterwards i just had the delete entry for the original PDF document. All these processes are built-in into either forms or workflow and there is no need for third party applications.
Perfect. I just had the upgrade done last night. I will try it out. Thanks.

I don't suppose you could or would be willing to elaborate a bit more on your post of May 19, would you? I'm having a hard time mimicking your process.
Thanks
The upgrade to 10.2.1.157 will generate pages for pdf's.
To combine the documents, I ended up creating a workflow that is triggered by the form and pdf being saved into a particular folder. Once they are in the folder, I retrieve the metadata. I then create an entry. Once the entry is created and use the metadata to name the document. I move the pages to the newly created entry from the documents I wish to convert. After that, I delete the original documents.
Here is my workflow.
Note: I put a delay in the process if there is a pdf present. I found the system was still trying to generate pages (from the forms process) while also trying to perform the document merge.
Mary,
Is your process that you detail occurring when a form is submitted with attachments? I built a process to emulate yours, but anytime trying to move the pdf pages, the Move Pages task returns "The source document contained no pages."
For clarity, my process is currently saving the form as a Tiff. Uploaded files are almost exclusively pdfs, and I'm ultimately looking to be able to merge those pdfs into the tiff.
Is there a setting in forms somewhere that I need to change. The only setting that I've found related to any of this is when manually importing pdfs into Windows Client, there is the check box there to Generate Laserfiche Pages.

Would either of you kindly elaborate on the setting at the user level that needs to be changed/updated in order to generate pages from PDF attachments? Just as Evan mentioned, the only setting I've been able to find is on Tools > Options > New Documents > Settings, but I'm not successful in generating pages for PDF attachments. I confirm we're using Forms version 10.2.1.157.
Thank you both in advance!
The settings that control generate Laserfiche pages or not is the option(Tools->Options->New Documents->Settings->When importing PDFs->Generate Laserfiche Pages) for the user that configured in the Save to Repository Server profile.
Hi Xiuhong,
I've verified that the user configured in the Save to Repository indeed has that Generate Laserfiche Pages option selected. However, all pdfs attached in a form process still end in the repository as a pdf, and not an image as intended.
I'm accessing these options by signing in as this user into Windows Client, and then verifying the options. Is there another place/way to check these options?
Thanks
Hi Xiuhong,
I've confirmed the same as Evan. Is there any other requisite that needs to be met for this to happen? Like server version and not just Forms version?
What version of Laserfiche Server are you using?
We have 10.2.1 installed for us.
Initially, the attachments do end up as a PDF in the repository.
Using forms, I create a holding folder for the actual form and any attachments. I use the metadata to name the folder. I did this by manipulating the path to create the folder.
So, I have the holding folder and it contains the actual forms submission and all attachments...some that are pdf files.
The workflow is triggered when the new folder is created, and it runs the process.
If there is a pdf in the folder, I have had to wait up to 5 minutes (I assume this would be quicker if I had greater resources) for it to have the pages generated; thus the delay in my workflow. If there were multiple pdf's, it could take some time. Initially, I thought about scheduling the workflow so I would be stressing the system; but there are some instances where I would need the info ASAP.
Once the workflow is complete, I have a newly create entry that contains pages from all the documents the holding folder contained (including the generated pages from pdf files) , and I have the original holding folder deleted. Deleting the holding folder, deletes the contents (including the original pdf files).
So, yes, the attachments are still saved as pdf's, but I process and delete them.
In forms, I did not do anything other than upgrade to 10.2.1 to get the generate pages to work.
I do have the options set up as above for the forms user in the "Save to Repository" section.
Sorry, much of this just repeats my reply above. I hope it is clear that initially the attachment is saved as a pdf. It is through processing that I am able to combine the documents.
I confirmed there is no problem to generate pages for pdf file with Laserfiche Server 10.2.1. Please notice that the file will be still saved as pdf but it will have pages generated automatically. You will see something like this(the page count indicate it has pages generated).
If you still can't get pages generated when save pdf form or attachment, please open support case.
Hi Xiuhong,
We're on server 10.2.0.
I went back and reconfigured all the user settings and created a new, fresh process just to test page generation, and to my surprise it worked this time! I tested again the original process and it is also working now, so I guess it was a fluke after the upgrade? not sure, but bottom line is that it now works as intended.
In summary, the only setting needs to happen for this to work is that you configure the user settings from the Desktop Client so that PDFs generate pages automatically, for the user that is configured in the "Save to Laserfiche" activity profile.
Thanks again!
It is working for my side of things as well. I think my biggest issue was I was expecting the pdf to actually change to a tiff. I failed to see the numbers of pages were changing.
