Question

Generate Pages using Workflow

asked on April 20, 2015

I have an odd scenario and I'm looking for direction...

A customer of mine has a Laserfiche Forms process for submissions.  The data captured within the form must then be used to populate a PDF form, due to the form's layout.  Once the PDF Form is populated I need to then be able to convert the PDF form to TIFF, so its pages can then be used to update an existing Laserfiche document.

Unfortunately I cannot have the Form submission be in TIFF and I need the PDF Form flattened to TIFF to updated existing data within the repository.  Is there a way to automate this process via workflow or some other method?

Just as an FYI, this can now be done using the 'Schedule PDF Page Generation' activity in Workflow 11 in conjunction with DCC.

why can you not have the form submitted as tiff? You can use two save to repository tasks to get each version.

Kenneth,

That won't work due to the nature of the data being captured and the formatting of the data.  The customer needs the data presented in the way the PDF form presents it and not in a TIFF version of the Laserfiche form.

They also need this due to electronic files being uploaded along with the submission (attachments), that need to be converted to TIFF so that existing Laserfiche documents can be updated with the form submission and any attachments.

Is it possible that the pdf form is part of an old process that you are trying to adapt to in Laserfiche?  Reason I'm asking is:  Is it possible the whole process could be reviewed to see if you're doing it that way just because it's always been done that way?  Maybe the whole process can be entirely restructured in a "new and improved" way?

Connie, you're spot on in your diagnosis of the situation, however the customer would still need the ability to convert attachments submitted with the form into TIFFs as well.   Once the pages are generated for each electronic file the pages would be moved to the destination document and the original electronic file could be deleted.

Hi Nathan,

Other than upon import, generating pages and appending to electronic documents automatically are not currently supported. There are two answers threads that delve pretty deeply into these features, so I'm hoping they can help provide ideas regarding options for page generation and appending electronic documents.

Tanya,

Thanks for the response.  I'll look into those posts and if our team is able to develop a solution I'll update this thread with the results.

Have a nice day!

I have the exact same scenario for one of our forms processes.  We have a form built that is then passed to Workflow in order to complete a fillable PDF.  In our case we are required to keep the format of the fillable PDF for compliance reasons-there is no way around it.  I'd like to see a way that we can run an automated conversion of the PDF to TIFF and then delete the PDF to ensure the document is archived appropriately, with no chance of anyone altering the submitted information.

We do not currently have Quick Fields as some of the other posts suggest using, but we might look into it.

If anyone has a working solution for this scenario we'd love to hear about it!

Glenn

you can take a look at https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/48724 to see some ideas about how to script the conversion from PDF to TIFF, but it will take some programming as Laserfiche does not provide any automated conversion method out of the box.

If you do not feel you can handle programming, you could try contacting Cliff Primmer of Qfiche (cprimmer@qfiche.com) and ask about a custom workflow activity.

Hi all,

Did you ever get to a solution for this? Would something like below help?
