Question

BMC software .Net Agent

asked on April 25, 2017

we have a case with our client who would like to install BMC software .Net agent that can test the applications such Laserfiche, DB, OS, etc...

we are worried if anything could go wrong on the application level of Laserfiche, since this agent analyze the back-end codes, connectivity, so kindly advise on such case what to do, more info can be found on below technical Documentation for .Net agent

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/TSOMD105/Installing+an+App+Visibility+agent+for+.NET

And the following documentation will give you insight of .Net agent with IIS :

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/TSOMD105/Preparing+for+installation+of+App+Visibility+agent+for+.NET

How .Net agent work with AVM server ?

An App Visibility agent captures a sample of the transactions that have latency violations or errors. The captured data and the metrics data for the application server are sent to the App Visibility collector.

The App Visibility agent for .NET captures information about application transactions from Internet Information Services (IIS) worker processes.

The data collected is stored in the App visibility Collector.

App visibility Portal fetches data from the Collector and displays it on the TSPS console.

It looks like this application only has agents for .Net and Java, so it won't be able to profile the Laserfiche server, but it should be able to profile our web applications.

What exactly is your question?

It might be the case that the customer intends to profile the Laserfiche Server via the SQL Server instance.

Sorry I did not got the notification when you guys replied !!!

The agent is doing / performing a test on the backend coding of LF .Net & Java using the profile of Laserfiche modules & DB related, regardless it is client or Web, so do Laserfiche allow such test or agent to do such penetration test !!!

if so appreciate a clear statement for this to let the client use the agent with other vendor,

This sounds to me more like an infrastructure monitoring application than any kind of penetration test.  Either way, they can test/monitor the software if they like.  If they find anything interesting, we'd like to hear about it.

Since this is a question about a software suite that is not a Laserfiche product, the best way of preparation is to visit the respective vendor's website for answers to your questions.

It is difficult for us to predict if any issues might occur. Therefore, we encourage you to work closely with the customer throughout the process, and to keep us informed via our support team if any issues occur.

In order to prepare your organization to provide the best assistance to your customer, please familiarize yourself with the Laserfiche system architecture and components, as well as the architecture, implementation planning, and system requirements of the respective third-party software suite.

In general, application monitoring incurs a performance overhead on the hardware, network, and storage. Therefore, make sure the customer's implementation planning contains provisions for increased consumptions of resources.

this is a part of consultancy we provide, however we need to insure that Laserfiche allow such penetration test on production environment regardless ti is client or web products,
