v 10.2 no response from server after upgrade

asked on April 17, 2017

I tried to move our installation to a new server and was following the Administration Guide.  The old server is v9.2 on Windows 2008 R2 with SQL 2008 R2 Express installed with v9.2.  The new server is SQL 2012 R2 with SQL Server 2016 Express installed before v10.2.

First issue was that the repository wouldn’t register because the Laserfiche services were running as Local System and that account login was denied in SQL.  So I changed the services to run as the logged in account which is an administrator and then the repository would register.

Second issue was with the search catalog, followed the Administrative Guide to delete and recreate it.

At that point, the v10.2 installation appeared to be running, but the 10.2 client installed on the server couldn’t connect, kept getting no response from server.  Same error trying to connect from a 9.2 client computer.

During the 10.2 installation it appeared that the firewall was adjusted for Laserfiche connectivity and the same entries appear on both the new and old server firewall incoming rules list.

What else besides checking the checking the firewall ports would cause this issue?

What Listening port is the LF server configured to use?

The entry for lfs.exe is for all protocols on any port.  There is another entry for port 80 and a search entry for TCP on port 5063

Is there a conflict between Laserfiche server on the old server?  The Administrator Guide just indicated to stop Laserfiche server on the old server in order to migrate to the new server.

If the license has the same serial, yes.  The server will not start.  You however stated that the service was starting but that the client could not connect.
Do you have any "Port" settings set in the registry keys?

In Engine\8.0 there is a Port with value 1888 on both servers.

In Engine\8.0\HttpServ there is a Port with value 80 as well as a NotificationsPort with value 5051 on both servers.

Open a dos window and run the following tool on the LF server:
netstat -ab > c:\netstatlog.txt
Attach the txt file to this thread.

I ran that tool on both the old and new servers and they are attached.

Are you sure the LF server service is running on the new server? If it was, it should show a port being used by LFS.exe.

Are there any entries in the LF admin log? (Applications and Services logs > Laserfiche > Content Repository > Service > Admin) and the Operational trace log? (Applications and Services logs > Laserfiche > Content Repository > Service  >Operational Trace)

No the LF server service is not running on the new server.  I had to revert back to the old server when the new server would not respond to the client.

There are entries in the Admin log, quite a few about the search catalog, but the last entry is this:

Another instance of the Laserfiche Content Repository service running on "192.168.1.4" with the same serial number was found. The service will terminate.

That would be the reason why you cannot connect to it.  You are basically using one license for both servers.

That makes sense, how do I move my license from the old server to the new server?  I can't find that information in the Administration Guide.

You need to deactivate the old license. Instructions for manually deactivating can be found in https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1012301/deactivating-laserfiche-products-

Once you have deactivated it, you can reactivate the new server.  In your case, since it is already installed, you can manually generate the new license: https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1012198/offline-activation-for-version-8-laserfiche-products-

In either case, you will need the HWFP from both machines - the HWFP of the old machine to deactivate the old server and the HWFP of the new machine to activate it.

Please note that you are restricted to running one server only per your license.
