Question

Purging deleted items is not clearing space on the hard drive

asked on January 12, 2017

We are running into a space issue on our main LF drive and found that it was being caused by some large PDF's of photos that had been inadvertently OCR'd, creating huge associated TIF's along with the PDF.  We have deleted these TIF's and purged them from the recycle bin, but the hard drive space has barely changed.  This has not changed after waiting a few days and restarting the LF service.  According to the Properties of the folders in LF, we should now have about 7 times more free space on the drive than we do.

Any ideas?

Is your storage on a volume that has shadow copy or some other feature to restore deleted files?  We have lag on recovering disk space for this reason.

Thanks for the reply!  Unfortunately, I checked and Shadow copy is not turned on on that particular drive.

The files on disk won't be deleted immediately but it should happen pretty quickly, see this answer.  A few days should be more than enough time, so you might want to work with your reseller to open a support case so we can take a closer look.  It would be helpful if you could identify one of the files that you think should have been deleted but which is still there.

Thanks.  I'm working with the reseller now.  I'm going to ask him to open a support case with LF, as I don't think he's making any progress.  We have located a folder with 200GB of TIF's that should have been deleted.
