Question

Limit User Access & Assign Defaults Mobile App

asked on November 22, 2016 Show version history

Hello,

We have just started to look at the mobile App as way for users to get purchase receipts into the repository. Right now we would like to limit the user to only be able to save/upload items to 1 designated folder in the repository when access via the mobile app.

We are also looking to have the preferences retained from use to use, for example a default metadata template and chosen image quality features, similar to how profiles are used for Laserfiche Snapshot.

In the small about of testing we have done this has been required to be reentered by users each time.  How can we set limitation around this?

Thank you,

Darren

Hello Darren,

When logging into the Mobile App, the user rights configured on the Laserfiche Administration Console and on the Web Access/Desktop client setting/rights will be retained. For example

1) whether a user can copy/delete/export/import/etc

2) whether a user has a template automatically assigned to each entry they upload

etc

These are all configured from the applications as mentioned above. The Mobile App itself, does not have it's own set of Access rights aside from the Mobile App Configuration page, where you can determine limited rights such as which users can log in from the app.

So some of the rights that you seem to wish to configure is available, but it will be applied not only on the mobile App side, but also on the Web Access and desktop client side.

Let us know if this addresses your question somewhat. Strictly speaking, i am trying to determine if your use case is to set rights and certain configurations ONLY when users are accessing the repository from the Mobile App, or if you just want these settings to be applied in general.

Hi Andrew,

Yes I was aiming to set certain use rights and certain configurations only when users are accessing the Mobile App.  The goal for use rights was to limit inadvertent deletions/moves by users who are less adept with touch screen than desktop.

The configurations was intended to limit the number of ‘clicks’ a user needed to upload a file/image and provide the required info upon upload.

I have moved towards a solution using LF Forms, which seems to allow the ‘configurations’ I’m looking for.

Thank you,

Darren

Hello Darren,

My apologies, as i saw this post afterwards, but i guess from the other post here, in regards to Forms upload size, i get a general idea as to what you're referring to.

To better improve the app and understand how your users and yourself are using the app, i will ask some questions

When you delete entries in the repository, it behaves the same as WA and Client, in which when you delete entries, it will pop up a confirmation to ask you if you really wish to remove those files.

1) Can you please elaborate where the concerns of "accidental deletion" may be.That way perhaps we can improve how entries are deleted. or is the concern not neccesarily with how the deleting entries behave, but more of users being "less adept" as you say to mobile touch devices, and may accidentally chose to "delete" through the 2-step process of "Delete" > Confirm to delete.

2) In regards to upload, currently we have the "+" button, which then drops down an option to upload an entry from...

I) Camera

II) Image

III) Document
IV) Add Folder

Might I assume you were looking more for rather than a 2-3 step process, a 1 step process in which you press an icon on the app and no drop downs are needed, and it will automatically bring you to say... your photo directory, or your cloud drive?

Hi Andrew,

Sorry to interject, but can you tell me how to go about turning on confirmations for entry deletions?

Thanks,

Michael
