Laserfiche migration utility db size growth

asked on November 9, 2016 Show version history

I just ran the Laserfiche migration utility to go from Laserfiche 7 to 9.  The original db was hosted on SQL 2000 full edition, and migrated to 2008 R2 sp3.  The db file size grew from 12.7 GB to  41.2 GB.  is this normal?  I thought that the db size would get smaller due to the thumbnails being removed from the db.

Thanks,

Frankie

Have you tried shrinking the new database yet? The migration utility does a large number of changes, so it's not unexpected for the SQL log file to grow accordingly. Backing up the database and shrinking the log would give you its true size.

You could also run SQL reports to see which tables are the largest ones and where your data is.

Yes.  Sorry, I forgot to mention that was after shrinking the db.  There wasn't much free space to shrink.

From SQL Server Management Studio, run a report showing the disk usage by table. That may help in explaining why the migrated database is so much larger. If you can get a similar report for the LF 7 database to compare against, that would be helpful too.

Here are the reports.  The top table is from the LF7 database prior to migration.  The bottom report is after the migration.   Does the migration utility create redundant data?
