Question

Moving Directory Server database

asked on October 18, 2016 Show version history

We are planning to move all of our Rio customers Laserfiche SQL databases to a new server.  I realize that I will have to un-register and re-register the Laserfiche repository during this process.  What are the appropriate steps to move the Directory Server database?

Thanks,
Jen

Essentially the same as for the Laserfiche Server: detach and reattach the licensing database

You can find the "Detach" option under "Settings". You can re-attach from "+ Create New Licensing", by entering the new connection information and choosing the "Attach" options in the dialog rather than "Create"

Yes, we have workflows running on the repositories.

You said databases, so I assume you're only moving the SQL databases, not changing Laserfiche servers as well. If that's the case, you should only shut down the WF services while this happens to keep them from reporting errors about connecting to the repository. They'd recover from it anyway, but there's no reason to have them write error messages to the event log while you're moving the database.

If the Laserfiche Server is changing too, you'll want to put in redirects to the new one before you more the repository so running instances can find the new server once the repository is back up.

Edit: If Forms is involved too, I'd stop the Routing Service too while the repository is detached so Forms doesn't try to save to LF during that time. Instances would suspend if they couldn't get to LF, so you wouldn't lose them, but you'd have to deal with resuming them afterwards.

You are correct, Miruna, the Laserfiche server is not changing only the SQL server.

Thanks for your help,
